Fashionary Memo Pad Launch! But Why?

In short: fast, simple and flexible. But how can we have this idea?

Do it in a mood board way

Unlike graphic designers who work mainly on the computer, or interior designers who need to live with large sketchpads. Fashion designers need the flexibility for sketching different outfits. We like to use mood boards with the ability to mix and match idea, visual element and concept.

We do many researches of the working style of different designers around the world. Many of them use paper or sketchbook and then cut out the sketch and stick them on their working areas.

A good idea is sticky, and so do your sketches.

When things are grouped together, the idea is very clear: A media that can stick to different places and the designers can sketch in the same proportion and size instantly. And the answer is something we are using everyday — post it memo pad with Fashionary templates.

So we start researching on the optimum size.

The perfect size

We decide to use 1/3 of an A4 paper for the size of the memo sheet. You can see, it fit nicely on the A4 paper and which is very easy for filing and storage.

Flat Drawing Templates redesigned

We asked different designers around the world to test the technical templates and it has been changed more than 20 times from our original idea.

The new one, which focuses on individual items, is much more user friendly for production drawing. And give the designer a much better view of the actual garment.

Spec Sheet on the back

We place the spec sheet for the top or bottom outfits on the back cardboard of the memo pad for easy photocopying :)

New version and Mens edition launched

Ladies and Gentleman, thanks very much for your patience. After 8 months of making, the new version of Fashionary is ready.

I would love to thanks for everyone’s feedback and suggestion, we have sent out feedback emails and received lots of opinion which helps the development of the new version.

The new-versioned Fashionary comes in womens and mens edition with 35% more content than the previous version. Nearly all the previous content are re-written and updated.

Today, I would love to reveal with excitement about the updates and features of the new Fashionary.

Major Updates:

A new cover material is used, more durable and better hand feeling.
The Flat Drawings section is rewritten and accessories categories are added – bag, hat, shoes, button, neckwear are all introduced in Accessories section.
Fabric Dictionary section is added, it Includes 160 fabric descriptions and common fabric pattern.
Seams & Stitches section is added.
Book & Bookmarks section is updated. Online shop, makeup, hair, bag and shoes reference are added.
Spec Sheets are rewritten.
Laundry label is expanded from just US standard to US, EU and JP standard.

Additional Updates and Changes:

Brand list is updated for the latest brand.
Body Measurements is updated to include European countries and Japanese sizes.
More board examples are added to the Presentation Boards Section.
Online color generators are added to the Color & Print section.
More cities are included in the Catwalk event section.

Package Update:

We modified the packaging to strengthen the brand identity and outlining the differences between mens and womens edition.

Major Updates:

We completely rewrote the Pattern and Flat drawing section to include more categories like hat, lingerie, shoes and bag etc. Needless to say, this would be a great help if you are brainstorming collections or searching items for styling.

Focus more on Details:

We expanded the details parts to make it more convenient to brainstorm even the tiny bit of details in the outfits.

Fabric Dictionary:

We added a new fabric dictionary section as an intensive library for fabric (160 commonly used fabric) and print pattern idea. The dictionary include description and nature of the fabric which can help the designers to have the knowledge for choosing and deciding their right fabric.

Seams and Stitches and Laundry Label:

We added the seams and stitches section for sewing and finishing reference. This helps in a technical way to construct better outfits.

The label part is expanded from US to US , EU & JP style.

Minor Updates

Nearly all part of the book are updated like Spec Sheet is updated with better industry standard, Bookmarks are update with make-up, hair, online shopping site.

Menswear Edition

The menswear edition has be requested for long and eventually we release it at the same time with the womeswear udpated version. The mens edition focus solely on menswear information and it has a shirting and suiting details section which is specially for menswear details.

Mens Template Available for Download!

After 6 months of research and preparation, the Fashionary mens edition will be launched in early August. In the meantime, the templates are open to download.
